Travertines of the Baths of Alicún

Thermal waters emerge at 35ºC, ideal for tourism, thanks to their deep origin and geothermal heating.

Where does the thermal water of the Baños de Alicún de las Torres come from? It is rainwater that infiltrates at depth, heats up and rises through a fault zone. Hydrogeological studies indicate that the water from the springs of Alicún de las Torres comes mainly from the carbonate aquifer of the Sierra de Baza and, to a lesser extent, with influence from the waters of the El Mencal aquifer. Scientists estimate that the reservoir that feeds the waters of the Alicún thermal springs is located between 650 and 800 m deep at a temperature of 56ºC. The deep water takes advantage of fault zones (permeable crushed rock) to rise to the surface where it flows at a temperature of 35ºC.
